PDA

By Christine chacha

Being in love is the most amazing thing that can happen to anyone. And according to others, if you have not experienced true love then you have not lived. love is the epitome of life, it’s what we strive at besides success and money.
Anyway, I was at the supermarket with my mother the other day  and I spotted a couple of lovebirds in front of us getting cozy. I could not help but admire the way they looked at each other and thought, “ isn’t love beautiful?” Things were going on just well until one of them started stroking the other in a way deemed inappropriate for public display.
The woman wrapped her arms around her man’s neck, and the man started kissing her. It wasn’t a quick mouth kiss, but a long one. I knew it was rude to stare, but what would you expect of me? it was no longer private since it was being done in a public place, right? We were behind them in the queue and mother dear could not take any more of their public display of affection or PDA as it is commonly known. My mother insisted that we go to another queue, and we left the rest of the crowd others shouting insults at them.
This is not the first time I have seen such a display in public and somehow I have learnt to be comfortable with it, but this one, I could not stand ! it was a little on the high side. Sure, they were in love but come on!
A friend thought that sometime people tend to be a bit hypocritical when it comes to PDA. "Do you think people would have reacted the same way if the couple was white?" she asked. I had to stop and think about it for a minute, since it is true that, we always tend to overlook such things if they are done by foreigners, especially Whites.

But really why do people hate PDA so much?

While most seem to agree that PDA is harmless, they also agree that it does instill feelings of intense hate from the lonely and the single segment of the society."PDA is okay if you are in a relationship, but if you are not, it is not okay no matter how harmless it may be," they say.
Can you imagine a couple near you getting hot and heavy while you are just there standing alone, you are single and have not been kissed in a while? It will definately remind you on what you are missing because you are single and desperately seeking for a partner. Who doesn't want to be seen in the hands of a man?It is for this reason that for most of the single folks out thre, PDA is just not right
It is used by women and men alike to make a point to the rest. I once had this friend who, whenever at a party where there were many single women, she would go to her man and engage in some serious PDA. She would always make sure that everyone saw her, she called it marking her territory; making sure that those with intentions for her man got the message loud and clear.
I also know some women who use the same to make others jealous. Trust me it works like magic. For some, PDA is an assurance of love from their partners, this are the ones who complain that their men wouldn’t hold them or consider kissing them in public. Even relationship experts suggest that PDA strengthens relationships since it means that one is comfortable with his partner even in public.
Most women love PDA and it is so sweet to see a couple holding hands and kissing (not french kissing) in public. But i wouldn’t want to be that woman whom everyone is scorning at because the PDA was on the higher side. I believe that too much of PDA reflects negatively on the woman, especially in our society.
Sure, he loves you and is with you,but what message is he sending out about you while he grabs your ass in public? it certainly says, you are loose and lack self-respect. But then i could just be old fashioned.

  1. I don't agree with you on the last paragraph! It could just mean that he is SO THAT IN TO YOU!
